I used to play “Карты Против Всех (онлайн)” — Cards Against Everyone online. I would join for a couple of rounds and stay for hours, argue with friends about the judge’s choice, laugh, win and lose. That game inspired me to build Cynical Cards.
A game I did not want to lose
Cards Against Everyone was a Russian-language game based on the Cards Against Humanity format. It ran from 2012 and closed on 13 March 2023. Those are the dates I gave in my account of starting the new project.
I liked not having to arrive with jokes prepared. You had a hand of answers and a question on the table. Sometimes the funniest combination was one you would never have thought of yourself. The people in the room made each game different.
When the site closed, I missed it. I wanted to meet my friends for another game, but there was nowhere to sign in.
In 2025, I decided to build my own game
I wrote the server side from scratch. I wanted to keep what I enjoyed about those evenings: questions, unexpected answers and friends you could spend hours playing with.
On 24 February 2025, I shared the project in a post titled “Reviving a legend”. It was called BonCard then. Today it is Cynical Cards at bon.cards.
A new game inspired by an old favourite
Cynical Cards is an independent project. The old Cards Against Everyone website did not reopen under this name. I built a new game inspired by my own experience as a player.
If you remember those evenings, the basic rules will feel familiar. Players choose answers, the judge picks the funniest, and its author earns a point. The next round has a new judge.
On bon.cards, you can choose Russian or English, chat and play sound cards. Phones and computers can join the same room. What matters most to me is still bringing together people who enjoy this kind of humour.
Getting together for another game
If you only played on the site that closed, you need an account for bon.cards. If you have already played BonCard or Cynical Cards, try your usual sign-in method first. Coming back does not require a new account.
Bring together three to ten players. Create a room, choose packs and send your friends an invitation. Add a password for a private group. If you are joining alone, try “Find a game” or arrange a match in chat.
The core game is free. Plus and shop purchases are optional. You can return to card jokes by signing in and finding a group.
Why I keep working on it
I started this project because I missed the game myself. Building it takes time, effort and money, but I want people to have a place to meet and laugh together again.
If you enjoy playing, invite your friends. If something gets in the way, tell me. That feedback helps me decide what to fix next.
